Athletes are different from bodybuilders. Athletes require flexibility, agility, speed, endurance, strength and mental focus. Bodybuilding only requires you “look” like you have all the above. I have a few friends who implement CrossFit training to help then in their jobs (one is a police officer). My Son will use some of the principles for preparing for High School Varsity Wrestling. He will be going into the 9th grade. So this summer we will be doing a lot of burpies, running, kettlebell and sledgehammer training.

My 2010 goals:

Tonight Kristhal and I saw the movie called “Race Across the Sky” its about the Leadville 100 Mountain Bike Race. Without getting into to many details of the movie, I can say it sure motivated me to do the lumberjack 100 next summer and the Leadville 100 in 2011. I will work towards it.

For the 2010 race season I hope to get more top 5 finishes.
To reach this goal I plan to continue my biking though the schedule over the winter will be scaled down. I will also add in cross country skiing once a week and swimming (hopefully) once a week. Also I just purchased new running shoes and have already started my running. Weight lifting will also include high rep squats with as much weight as I can handle for 20+ repetitions.
Proposed schedule:
Monday: Weights, 30+ spin on stationary bike and running.
Tuesday: Weights, 30+ spin on stationary bike and running.
Wednesday: 20 mile riding with little intensity.
Thursday: Swimming.
Friday: Riding back roads or road biking.
Saturday: Cross Country skiing (snow months only), weights**.
Sunday: Running, weights**.
** = one day (Sunday or Saturday) .
I hope to be able to supplement my bike racing with running races 10k and 1/2 marathons. I also have a goal to be able to swim 1 mile.

I will be racing for CycleTherapy Racing this year. I had fun racing for RBS Cycling Team, but I wanted to try something different. I will be posting more bike related updates here this season. Hopefully there will be less political rants and more good biking news!

Now that gas prices are at a all time high do you think people will be sensitive to those who wish to ride a bike? Probably not.. You would think that being conservative could apply to energy consumption too. How can riding a bike to work NOT be helpful in the rise costs of energy? When you are riding a bike you are NOT consuming oil… just carbohydrates.
GOP bashes bike to work
Say it’s hardly a strategy for real energy solutionsWednesday, June 25, 2008
s Democrats yesterday encouraged people to ride their bicycles to work today as a solution to rising gas prices, Republicans had this to say: “You’ve got to be kidding.”
While more than 20,000 commuters throughout Denver metro today plan to ditch the car and participate in Bike to Work Day, some Republicans said cycling falls short of any real energy solutions.
“Colorado families are struggling at the pump and the answer we are getting from Colorado Democrats is shut down oil and gas production in Colorado and ride your bike — unbelievable,” said Rep. Frank McNulty, R-Highlands Ranch. “I’d like to see how they expect a mother of three in my district to get her kids to school and to buy groceries for her family using a bicycle.”
While many democrats lose points for frenzied gun control, they gain points for promoting energy conservation.

With the price of crude oil going up and the cost of health care also rising… how about riding a bike to the store instead of driving? If more people were on a bike this could become a norm… and drivers would also become more aware of the cyclists sharing the road. Thankfully SUV’s are becoming a less desirable vehicle. I am all for 4×4′ing in the trails, but using these monsters for everyday commuting is a real thread to our economy.

If Rwanda had oil… we would have been there to “lend a hand”.
This article from the Washington Post wrote what many of us already knew:

Why can’t we become a nation thats adaptable and not critically dependent on oil? We could! Stay out of other countries business… and help each other out… car pool, even ride a bike more often. Lowering speed limits may be happening soon enough. I also suspect that Michigan will adopt a “car-pool” lane on our expressways to promote car-pooling.
Come on people quit being so damned stupid!, Oil is not a birth right!
