The notion that lemmings deliberately hasten their demise by rushing into the sea may be a myth, but the anti-Second Amendment group and its spokesmen really are scurrying through a series of blunders that may hasten their steady march to irrelevancy.

In 2008, in District of Columbia v. Heller, the group’s two theories about the Second Amendment were rejected by the Supreme Court, one of them by five justices and the other by all nine. In 2009, they tried, with no success, to frighten America about tourists carrying guns for protection in national parks.

This year, they’ve insulted their most powerful ally, President Obama, for not setting aside the economy, the war, and his social agenda to push for gun control legislation Congress does not support. They’ve given the states their worst “Brady grades” ever, even though violent crime continues to decrease. And, they’ve badgered the Starbucks coffee company for allowing customers to legally carry firearms in its stores.

This week, though, Brady lawyer Dennis Henigan—the world’s most prolific advocate of the legal theories the Supreme Court sent to the shredder two years ago—further diminished the group’s credibility by claiming “The evidence is overwhelming that the ’shall-issue’ concealed carry laws have been a disaster for public safety. . . . [T]he scholarly research shows that the laws generally have been ‘associated with uniform increases in crime.’”

If he had just pushed himself away from the computer after his first four words, he would have been much better off. There’s “evidence,” all right, and it’s certainly “overwhelming.” Today, there are 36 states with “shall issue” laws—an all-time high. Sixty-three percent of Americans live in “shall issue” states, five million Americans have carry permits, and two states don’t even require a permit to carry concealed.

“Uniform increases in crime”? The nation’s violent crime rate is at a 35-year low.

Since adopting “shall issue” laws, Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Nevada, North Carolina, Oregon, South Carolina, Texas, Utah and Virginia have had decreases in violent crime ranging from 26 to 53 percent.

Henigan also claimed to have 33,000 signatures on his anti-Starbucks online petition, which can be signed by anyone with a computer anywhere in the world. But in a country of five million carry permit holders, up to 80 million gun owners, and 300 million people, Brady’s petition and $1.70 will get you …

Halbrook Testimony on C-SPAN on Nominee Eric Holder for Attorney General

Recently India experienced a major attack by terrorists.

The candlelight procession that drew hundreds of Mumbai residents out onto Marine Drive on Sunday was more than just a symbolic gesture of solidarity with those who had died or lost loved ones in the three-day terrorist attacks last week. The marchers were expressing their defiance in the face of those who had come to kill, and also their anger at the authorities for failing to protect their city and anger at the leaders seeking political advantage from the tragedy. Amid the mounting outrage at the authorities, the central government’s Home Minister, Shivraj Patil — already under pressure in the wake of previous attacks — resigned, claiming moral responsibility for the attacks.

There are a lot of people in India, and if only 1% owned a firearm that would be more than 10 million! Well the longer we allow the U.N. to “disarm” the citizen to make the world “safer”, the criminals who have no intention to following any laws will always have the upper hand.

I live in India and I am a proud firearm owner - but I am the exception not the norm, an odd situation in a country with a proud martial heritage and a long history of firearm innovation. This is not because the people of India are averse to gun ownership, but instead due to Draconian anti-gun legislation going back to colonial times.

If we are to ban guns because they could do harm in the wrong hands, we should ban cameras, as in the wrong hands can also do harm. People kill with guns, knives bats and other objects, but they also save lives and play sports. Cameras in the wrong hands could make many children fall victim to “child pornography”, but no one is talking about banning cameras.

More stuff to strengthen the case for gun ownership.

The victims had a personal protection order, yet the police were “too late”.Anyone say the police are the only ones who can keep you cozy and safe?

Wikipedia has this info that shows crime is not related to gun ownership: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gun_control. Switzerland and Norway have high gun ownership, yet very little crime.

Almost everyone knows Obama’s voting record regarding gun control versus gun rights.  But there are more questions, like what are people thinking when they say they are not worried about him taking their guns.

http://www.gazette.com/opinion/gun_42265___article.html/obama_assault.html

If Obama and Joe Biden will help get assault weapons off our streets, then Obama and Biden support ordinary gun control. We had a so-called assault weapons ban from 1994 to 2004, and it was ordinary gun control. The Department of Justice found it did little or nothing to reduce violent crime in this country.

Joe Biden brags about the 94 crime bill that did nothing, but hurt law abiding gun owners!

Why I will vote for a Libertarian called Bob Barr.

The U.S. Constitution is not a living document, it is supposed to be a cornerstone of our freedoms. I will laugh when many of you find that you were wrong, and that the U.S. we know now will become a story of a time when every person was a free human. Obama and his desire to remove basic freedoms is the first step in this direction. (Chipping away at the First Amendment, then the Second Amandment, he’s been doing this for a while though)

I supported Obama before I did my homework.  If John Edwards would have been chosen as the democratic dominee, I would have voted for him in a heartbeat!

Free to gain, lose, rise and fall. With the freedom to gain from hard work comes the risk of having nothing if you do not work for it.  But a government who for a short time provides somethings,  will evenutally be a government that takes everything.   I hope those will remember how important our country was because of the beautifully written constitution.

The whole “gun” thing is about the oil.  Oil is the very thing that took us from the “Little House on the Prairie” to where we are now.

Crime is directly related to the economy. While the crime did go up at the start of the “Great Depression of the ’30’s”, it will be much worse this time. The population is much more dense now, there is more at stake.

Do we really want a excutive leader to appoint Supreme Court justices that will take away our rights to self defense?  Yes (D.C. v. Heller), acknowledged guns as an individual right, but barely.  Obama, never supported gun rights. Remember the Supreme Court already stated that the Police are NOT obligated to defend us. (Castle Rock v. Gonzales).  Obama is protected by the secret service even now before he is elected, what about us?

Hey,

You all are preaching to the choir, try convincing those who actually research the facts (www.ontheissues.org).

Everyone knows Obama is against guns, and will appoint Supreme Court Justices who are anti-gun.If you do not believe Self defense is a human right then thats your right, but don’t think that “preaching” to each other will convince those who believe in the right to defending one’s family/home otherwise. Also look up Gonzales vs. Castlerock, then tell the Pro-gun people that they do not need guns. If the police cannot be held accountable for failing to uphold a PPO, then why not allow a law abiding U.S. citizen the right to keep his family safe? More on Barack Obama Read the Article at HuffingtonPost

According the the U.S. Supreme Court:
(Gonzales Vs. Castle Rock)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Castle_Rock_v._Gonzales

Castle Rock v. Gonzales, 545 U.S. 748 (2005), was a case decided by the Supreme Court of the United States, in which the court ruled, 7-2, that a town and its police department could not be sued under 42 U.S.C. §1983 for failing to enforce a restraining order, which had led to the murder of a woman’s three children by her estranged husband.

This is EXACTLY  WHY the 2nd amendment is the most important bill of right!

A couple of the justices that voted in favor of the police in the above mentioned case, also believe you do NOT have a right to bear arms.. which means (to my understanding) we do NOT have a right to be safe and no rights to self defense.

Basically the two mentioned above do NOT think anyone should be defended by either a qualified police force or the most effective tool, a GUN…

So between  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Castle_Rock_v._Gonzales & http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/District_of_Columbia_v._Heller the message is OBVIOUS!

hmm Who do you think Obama will want as Supreme Court justices?
